Healthy and radiant brown skin begins with proper hydration. The spring and summer seasons can be drying to our skin, therefore it is important to consume plenty of water to stay hydrated. Because our skin cells require a constant supply of oxygen, found in H2O, it is important to drink water to provide the necessary nourishment. It is the blood that is flowing throughout our bodies that help to transport oxygen to the skin cells; water is the essential componet of our blood.
So, how much water do you need to consume daily? Surely, you've heard the myth that you must drink 8 glasses of water per day to stay healthy. However, this is not necessarily true. A
rule of thumb is that if you are thirsty, drink water! The proper amount of water that your body needs is based upon body size and location. If you are not a raving fan of water, there are other ways to get it. Foods are an excellent source of adding water or fluids to your body. My favorites consists of fruits and vegetables because they are delicious and you are multi-tasking! (Feeding hunger and quenching thirst!)
Myth: Bottled water is healthier for you than tap water. Some bottle water is actually tap water. Marketing and gimmicks lead us to believe that our tap water is no good. However, if you have concerns regarding your tap water, be sure to get it tested for lead and arsenic. Also, take caution when consuming previously opened bottles of water that has been sitting for a day or so. Bacteria can grow in water so it is best to discard half consumed water bottles.
