Review of JOICO K-PAK Home Hair Repair Kit

Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed that my hair has become excessively dry. It could be the change in climate, or lack of H20 in my current diet. Whatever the case, it is causing my hair to become lifeless and brittle. In a final effort to stop the breakage and shedding, I headed over to my local beauty supply store. This store in particular, carries several professional product lines. After discussing my concerns regarding my hair with the sales rep (and licensed beautician), he recommend that I try this reconstructing line by Joico.

The package is sort of a mini sampler, that comes with:

K-PAK Shampoo: Gently cleanses as it reconstructs to restore hair’s elasticity, strength and shine.

- Daily conditioning needed to reconstruct and moisturize hair. K-PAK Deep

–Penetrating Reconstructor - Restores weak and damaged hair to its orginal strength and condition.

K-PAK Intense Hydrator- Intense moisture treatment for overly dry, damaged hair.

Hoping that the product would work as described, I immediately headed home for my “beauty treatment.” The first thing I noticed was that the system lacked detailed instructions regarding what order each product should be used. I was confused by the timing necessary for processing each conditioner that came with the 4 step program. Should I mix the conditioners, or use them separately? I know that beauty sometimes takes time, but, I was not at all excited about the length of time it took to complete the “restoration” process.

This is not an ideal treatment if you wash your hair while showering. After the first wash, I noticed that my hair felt completely stripped of moisture. I figured that this was because it was a protein treatment and that perhaps the follow-up conditioners would replenish what I had lost. Unfortunately, when I had completed all four steps, I was left with hair that was difficult to detangle and not soft at all. I’m sure that this product may work for others, however, it did not work for me. Maybe I will use it again, since I still have plenty left. I’m not sure if it is a progressive treatment or not. Next time I will add a little Extra Virgin Olive Oil for added condition and shine.
